What I appreciated right off the bat about Ubuntu is that it was easy for me, being used to Windows to adjust, everything is simplified and strait forward, the navigation menu's are self explanatory, being clearly marked and best of all the Ubuntu package you will download comes fully featured with excellent free software native to the installation that you would have to other wise purchase separately with a windows installation. Included in the installation you will find Mozilla Firefox installed so you can surf the web, there is also great software for Email, you can create documents and spreadsheets, edit images and many more things. Ubuntu's open source office measures up to any comparable suite, your applications come installed which helps make your computing experience a more enjoyable one sparing you the chore of chasing software on the go.
The best news about Ubuntu 8.04 is that it is completely free of charge and will remain so, its packaged software is completely free, from the installation cd once installed Ubuntu presents a ready to go desk top environment The system has regular security updates and long term (3 years) support. I chose to mount my Ubuntu as a dual boot for starters, but this system is also a worthy stand alone system to recommend to friends and family. I have no hesitation in giving this product an excellent rating. I am very impressed and interested in learning more as I go.
